An Evening With The Goldeyes
On June 19, the ALS Society of Manitoba and the Winnipeg Goldeyes joined forces once again to present An Evening With The Goldeyes at Canwest Park. This has always been a popular collaboration, because of the Lou Gehrig connection to ALS, and this year was no exception. Our information booth provided people with valuable information about ALS, the ALS Society of Manitoba, and our upcoming events. We also passed batting helmets through the stands for donations. This popular event is expected to continue and grow in the coming years.

Third Party Golf Tournaments
This summer provided us with three wonderful third party Golf Tournaments, all of which were quite successful in providing both needed funding and awareness. Two of the tournaments, the John Kornaga Memorial Golf Tournament at the Pinawa Golf Course, and the Henry Derksen Memorial Golf Tournament at Bel Acres Golf and Country Club, are annual tournaments, held in memory of people who have died of ALS. The Vipond Golf Tournament at Kingswood Golf and Country Club, is a company tournament that picked the ALS Society as their charity of choice and held a putting contest to help raise funds.
Thank you very much to everyone who helped organize, sponsor, donate and participate in all of these tournaments. Your support is gratefully appreciated and we look forward to partnering with you all again next year.

ALS GIANT YARD SALE
Proudly Sponsored By: SENTINEL SELF STORAGE KING'S TRANSFER GLORIA DEI LUTERAN CHURCH
REAL CANADIAN SUPERSTORE SALISBURY HOUSE OF CANADA
This year’s Giant Yard Sale on August 29th & 30th, in support of the Brummitt-Feasby ALS House truly lived up to its name, with donated items nearly overflowing four large storage lockers at Sentinel Self Storage with more coming as we set up at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. In fact, we received so many items that Gloria Dei could barely contain it. But collect it and they will come, and first thing Saturday morning the line up began. Treasure hunters from all over the city came to check us out and very few left empty handed. At the end of the weekend, we had raised more than $5,000 for the Brummitt-Feasby House. All of the remaining items were donated to Oyati Tipi, to help support less fortunate families. Thank you very much to Shannon Bochinski, our volunteer Yard Sale Coordinator, for all of your hard work. We couldn’t have done it without you. Thank you also to Sentinel Self Storage, to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, to Kings Transfer for hauling many of the items, to Superstore and Salisbury House for providing food and beverages, and to all of our many volunteers who helped us haul, store, organize and sell everything prior to, during and even after the event.

The Great Dining Experience
This year’s Summer Raffle, The Great Dining Experience, which featured chances to win meals at some on Winnipeg’s favourite restaurants, was tremendously popular, with the tickets almost selling themselves. Manitobans love a good meal, and the opportunity to dine at some of Winnipeg’s most popular restaurants was almost too good to pass up. Carol Poulin won the first prize, a total of $900 worth of gift certificates to; The Gates on Roblin, Restaurant Dubrovnik, and 529 Wellington. Zoe Albi and Glenn Reimer received second and third prizes respectively, with Bryanne McLaughlin winning the early bird prize of a Blackberry Pink with $100 of airtime supplied by Rogers Communications. Congratulations to all of our winners, and thank you to everyone who supported this event, not the least of whom were our volunteer ticket sellers.

Drive for Life Golf Tournament
In Honour of MARCEL BERTRAND
Proudly Sponsored by: DERKSEN PLUMBING AND HEATING THE GOLF DOME EAST SIDE VENTILATION
CLEAR 102fm EMCO CORPORATION
The 6th Annual Drive for Life Golf Classic in memory of Marcel Bertrand at Bel Acres Golf and Country Club is going to be a hard act to follow. With a full course of 146 registered golfers out to have a fun day on the links, excellent weather, and a great lunch supplied by Boston Pizza, the event was primed for success. Add to this the hole sponsors, offering everything from tasty treats like cookies, chocolate bars and beverages, to fun contests like hole in one contests, or the Investors Group Longest Drive With a Marshmallow, and the excitement reaches a whole new level. Once again 102 Clear FM’s Jay and Billie-Jo emceed the evening festivities, which included a wonderful pork dinner and prize presentation. Congratulations to the Derksen Plumbing & Heating team who took first prize this year; and congratulations to all of the other prize winners, including Fred Albi, who apparently can hit a marshmallow farther than anyone. Thank you to all of our supporters, sponsors, volunteers and, of course, participants. See you all again next September.

ELVIS ON THE RED
For the second year in a row, Nick Drobot brought the wonder of Elvis to the Paddlewheel Queen at the second ELVIS on the RED event on September 18th. In fact, Nick managed to rock the boat even more than he did last year. From the moment he hit the stage, Nick gave everyone on the boat a chance to see something that no one had ever seen before, an Elvis as fit as he had been in his younger years, but with the stage presence and charisma of an experienced veteran. An added sound system and a video screen set up on the second level created a case of nostalgia for those who remembered Elvis from his Ed Sullivan days, as it only showed Nick from the waist up. But it did give people the opportunity to make use of the Paddlewheel Queen’s second level dance floor, which many took advantage of. At the end of the night, people were raving about the great performance and expressing interest in doing it all again next year. Many thanks go to all our generous sponsors, to Paddlewheel Cruises not only for providing our location, but for the wonderful meal that they served and, of course, to Nick for once again giving us an amazing performance. Thank you, thank you very much.

4th CONFERENCE ON ALS
SO YOUV'E BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH ALS - WHAT NOW?
This year’s Conference “So You’ve Been Diagnosed With ALS – What Now?” on October 2 was another educational and informative event for Health Care Professionals and ALS Clients and their families. Keynote Speakers included Dr. Doug McKim, Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Ottawa and Ottawa Hospital, who spoke about noninvasive ventilation and airway clearance, and Jane McCarthy, the Director of Services and Education at ALS Canada, who spoke about how to talk with children about ALS. Christine Newell and Dr. Mike Harlos from the WRHA Palliative Care program talked about advanced care planning and health care directives, and Colleen Braun-Janzen, Nancy Furness and Lori Knott from the WRHA Department of Communications, discussed alternative methods of communication. Since knowledge is power, the Conference on ALS continues to empower people living with the effects of ALS. Thank you to everyone who made this conference possible.

A Night out at Charisma of India
Proudly Sponsored by CHARISMA OF INDIA TURKISH TAFFY BELLY DANCERS FORT GARRY BREWING
Charisma of India not only got summer off to a hot start , they also spiced up the summer’s ending, by providing us with two night’s out in support of the ALS Society, one on July 13 and one on November 23. The people who came out to either or both evenings enjoyed a night out that included a mouth watering display of East Indian cooking provided by the staff of Charisma of India, followed by an amazing dance performance by Jasmine, Farasheh and the Turkish Taffy Belly Dancers. Each evening ended with the Turkish Taffy Dancers inviting audience participation for the last dance. The July event included a birthday celebration for one of the attendees, and the November event was attended by Kirkfield Park MLA Sharon Blady. In both cases the evenings were enjoyed by all who attended. Thank you to Mitesh and the staff of Charisma of India, to Jasmine and the Turkish Taffy Belly Dancers, and to all the people who came out and supported both of these events. We look forward to seeing you again at the next Night Out at Charisma of India in 2010.
An Evening of Fine Dining at Mirlycourtois
This evening, held on Sunday, November 1st. was an unprecedented success. When Chef Bernard Mirlycourtois discovered that his beloved Carole had been diagnosed with ALS, he planned a gala dinner in their restaurant in support of the ALS Society. He called on his fellow chefs to help him put on the dinner, and his close friends and customers to attend and support the event and everyone stepped up. The kitchen contained a Who’s Who of the Winnipeg culinary community with Kenaston Wine Market’s Jim Jaworski not only providing wine pairing for the multi-course extravaganza, but acting as Master of Ceremonies. Pre-dinner entertainment was performed by Sheena Grobb. It was love at first bite for the attendees of this packed event and provided a huge support to the ALS Society. If there is any way to make something good out of something bad, Carole and Chef Bernard managed to do it. Life handed them lemons and they managed to make champagne. Thank you very much for a wonderful evening.
