About ALS Society of Manitoba

History

ALS Society of Manitoba was founded in 1980 in Winnipeg as a support group for people living with ALS, their families, friends and other interested people. Since then, the Society has become a registered charity and an affiliated unit of the ALS Society of Canada. The Unit Director from ALS Society of Manitoba’s board represents our region by serving on the board of ALS Canada.

We have a strong working relationship with ALS Team at the Deer Lodge Centre in Winnipeg, where our office is located.

Our provincial society currently maintains a mailing list of over 11,000 people. Members of ALS Society of Manitoba are also members of ALS Society of Canada. Throughout the country, ALS Societies endeavor to provide direct support to those whose lives are touched by ALS. We create public awareness about ALS and raise money for research.

Our Mission

ALS Society of Manitoba has a mission of HOPE-to Help Our People with ALS Every way we can.
  • ALS Society of Manitoba provides services for persons living with ALS through our various client services programs
  • ALS Society of Manitoba endeavors to assist people living with ALS and their families to manage the effects of the disease.
  • ALS Society of Manitoba raises funds that support research directed by the ALS Society of Canada. Researchers are currently making progress into the cause and various therapies for ALS , which we hope will eventually lead to a cure.

Internal Structure

ALS Society of Manitoba consists of three full time Office Staff Members, who work out of the ALS Society office at Deer Lodge Centre. We are actively expanding our services throughout Manitoba. We Also have a staff of Health Care Workers who Provide 24 /7 care at the Brummitt-Feasby ALS House. The Brummitt Feasby ALS House has allowed us to serve our Clients and their Families better, providing both full time Care and Support as well as Respite.
